While Elie suffers all the pain and is forced to live in a hell created by the Nazi's, the world outside the concentration camp stays silent. There are no attempts by the German citizens around him to stop this, or find out what or why this was happening. He is not capable to doing anything. He is completely helpless. Not only are the people staying mute, his own God has shown no intention of retaliating! He is doing nothing to save his people. Elie is disgusted. This severely scars any type of relationship he had ever had with God. He doesn't understand how He can turn his head and apparently be on a leave while they are being persecuted. The Holocaust was a major event in many people's lives, but it also has become a metaphor for our century. There cannot be an end to speaking and writing about it.Photo From: popdose.com
